The Surjakund International Craft Mela is unique as it showcases the richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural fabric of India & is the largest crafts fair in the world. The Mela is organized by Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministies of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. For the 34th Surajkund International Craft Mela 2020, the state of Himachal Pradesh has been chosen to be Theme State.
The proposal include Entry gate in traditional himachali style, Replica of Bhimakali Temple Sarahan, Apna Ghar ( traditional Himachal house) and 5 temporary Entry gates representing Himachal Pradesh.
Entry Gate has been designed in traditional Himachal Architecture. Wooden Posts having traditional carvings & mottifs. Slate roofing over wooden members and wooden ceiling provide elegant entry gate vernacular Himachal Character. Replica of Bhimakali Temple Sarahan constructed in traditional Katha kuni style i.e. combination of stone & wood. Wooden arches, carvings, mottifs and brackets characterize the upper floor of replica. Traditional slate roofing with wooden ridges , facias & Jhallers relates the replica to the original temple. Traditinal Himachal House represent stone walls on ground floor, wooden arched verandah on first floor and traditional slate roofing over house.
The festival was inaugurated by honorable President of India. The planning and execution of the proposal was completed within a short period of 45 days.
